WECare Worldwide

WECare Worldwide is a UK-based veterinary charity that operates in Sri Lanka, providing essential healthcare to the island’s large population of street dogs. With a vet hospital, a mobile CNVR clinic, and a tuk-tuk animal ambulance, WECare offer a range of services, including:

  • Promoting humane and effective population management: ICAM advocates for responsible pet ownership, spaying and neutering, and other humane methods to control animal populations.
  • Sharing knowledge and best practices: The coalition facilitates the exchange of information and experiences among experts, policymakers, and animal welfare organizations globally.
  • Supporting research and innovation: The group encourages research into new and innovative approaches to companion animal management.
  • Advocating for animal welfare: The coalition works to raise awareness of animal welfare issues and promote the ethical treatment of all animals.

WECare Worldwide’s history began in 2014 when UK veterinarian Janey Lowes witnessed the plight of Sri Lanka’s street dogs during a backpacking trip. Initially operating on her own, Janey gradually built a dedicated team of volunteers and supporters to improve the lives of Sri Lanka’s street dogs and provide them with the care they need.

WECare Worldwide’s programs are supported by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Happy Doggo, and other charitable organizations.
