Animal Behaviour & Training Council (ABTC)

The Animal Behaviour & Training Council (ABTC) is a charity dedicated to promoting humane practices in animal training and behavior therapy. Its primary goal is to ensure the welfare of animals by setting and maintaining high standards for animal trainers and behavior therapists. ABTC, a member of the Canine & Feline Sector Group, also represents the training and behaviour sector to the public and to governments.

To achieve its mission, the ABTC sets and monitors standards of professional competence, coordinates with other organizations promoting similar standards, provides information and support to relevant agencies, and raises public awareness about ethical and humane animal training and behavior therapy. The council also encourages research into human-animal interactions, animal behavior, and psychological welfare.

One of the most valuable services offered by the ABTC is its Practitioner Directory. This directory lists qualified animal trainers, instructors, and behavior therapists, allowing pet owners to find professionals who are competent in working with specific animal species. By utilizing the ABTC’s directory, pet owners can ensure that they are choosing a qualified and ethical professional to help with their animal’s training and behavior needs.
